Hogdon Perfect pattern

Bought some PP and some of the new High Gun powders this summer. Eager to try them out ! I loaded 125 rds of 1 oz PP...very nice...works great ! It's much the same as all the rest...albeit using a bit less powder to achieve the same 1200 fps !
So less is more, and with the prices, that's a good thing I guess.
Priced nicely too (( for now anyways ))
....there was an 8 lb of High Gun available too, looked pretty frugal for loads, so I got it as well, but, my during research, I found it very curious that the High Gun has the exact same bushing weight readings as Tight group !!!! Same on MEC, P & W, Hornady...so after more research, the consensus seems that Tightgroup was always touted as a pistol powder for reloading, and was re-branded /re- labled as a "new shotgun powder" !

Smart move by Hogdgon...fooled me...lol Both work great...no big thumping on the shoulders either. But I can never have too much powder anyways, rrright ??
My .02 worth...Kevin

Just found a load for Remington sts hulls with perfect pattern that is 980 fps.

Wondering if this is a replacement for WAALite as I have data for around the same velocity for that powder.

Gotta be some friggen close !!
Hodgdons website shows that very same 1 oz load (( *** 970 fps *** )) with Perfect Pattern powder in the STS hulls, using all makes of primers...using ONLY the WAA12L (lite) wads. IIRC...that's the same as the CB-1100-12 [Clay busters equivalent]...real frugal on the powder too !!
Might have to give them a go with the grandkids !

I’m looking at 3/4oz 12ga loads for rabbit and squirrel way I see it no use in throwing huge amounts of shot at them.

Unfortunately, H Data Center doesn't show anything for 3/4 or 7/8 oz easy Perfect Pattern loads. My 3/4 oz stuff is quite a bit quicker than 970 fps.

It would have to be too light of a shot charge and slow would lead to more bloopers. Titewad seems like a good one for 3/4oz.

I think I wrote down the 970fps loads years ago for .690 round ball might have to give them a go with perfect pattern. I don’t reload birdshot generally in 12ga.

My wife uses 2 flats a year of the Win "half recoil-half sound" rounds for Cowboy that are almost unatainable these days and just bought a lb of PP at Stettler gunshow on a whim to load equivalent loads for her so I hope it can be use for very light loads.

It will be spring now before I get much testing done. Haven't done any research yet but suspect I might have to make some custom bushings for my Mec H9000 to achieve what I want. I have a 7/8 shot bushing but might even downsize that to 5/8, she doesnt need a dense pattern at 15 yrds for steel plates so 5/8 will make a bag of shot last longer.

Let us know how it works out for her. Be nice to have that extra know how.

An update as asked for. A load published by Hogdon apeared to be just what i wanted, a 7/8 oz load at under 1000 fps. The problem was , that I dint have a bushing small enough to drop what they called for for for the reloader (Mec 9000H) so out to the shop to cut a bushing in the lathe. The published load calls for 12.4 gr of PP and my bushing drops 12.2 so usable.
This week here is colder than well drillers a$$ (-39 right now) so Im in the basement loading shotshells untill the weather breaks. I loaded 1/2 dozen yesterday to see if the wads I have on hand (7/8 oz grey AA) are going to be tall enough and I got a perfect crimp on all so good to go I think.
I fired those six rounds in my old 97 Win to see if they were just going to go "bloop" or fire with enough authority to take the intended metal plate targets down...they all whent "bang" with a bit of recoil so think they will accomplish what she needs...sure hope so as I will have over 500 rounds done byt the end of this cold snap.
