Is my understanding correct ...

If I want to run a Hogue forend on a 590a1 I have to purchase the forend tube extension ?
Thanks.

Really ? Don't think I've ever noticed that on their site. Will have to take another look.
Thanks.

Well, I'm not positive however I do know for sure that the regular size will not fit and the full length action tube will also not work as it will short stroke forward and jam against the mag tube cap.

Are you not liking the OEM ribbed one with the strap?

Actually I have no problem with it, even like it.
My 18" 590a1 has a Hogue (which I like as well) and was thinking of matching them up. It' no big deal if it can't be done.

Just pulled them both out and when side by side doesn't look like it's doable.

I have a 14" 590A1, and put a Boyd's laminate stock and forend set on it. I didn't realize the forends were different lengths for the standard barrel lengths and the 14" barrel, so when it arrived I had to do some cutting and sanding to make the forend fit. Now it actually slides over front barrel lug thing that goes over the magazine, just behind the magazine cap. Since the forend was for a standard length Mossberg, I imagine you'll have to do some modification to make a Hogue fit (if modifications are even possible).

Same as me.

I have a Hogue on my 20", and the short ribbed one on my 14". Both are good forends. I use the 14" way more though.

I used to shoot my 14" less, because of how the low front sight on the short barrel affects accuracy. I shot my 870 Tactical more.
This year I got a red dot for the 14" and mounted it on a rail I had bought previously. It's a really fun and nice handling gun to shoot.

Yes, the Mossberg bead sights are too low. You'd think they would address that. At least Remington added the pedestal.

I use the XS Big Dot, raises it perfectly along with it's other benefits. Have wanted to try the SeeAll tritium sight on an SG.

Added the Mcarbo trigger spring kit and S&J follower, 12.5" LOP Hogue stock. Along with the Big Dot find that's all the 590a1 really needed imo.

that reminds me ... I have to hunt down some 8-40 stopping receiver plugs for my 14".
