Hogue Pistol Grips: Aluminum v. G10

For me I always go G10, I like to have more grip, not less. I have the G10 checkered Hogues, very nice, huge improvement over stock. I never understood why people would go for aluminium unless they really liked the look. I know a guy who has a high end competition gun, it came with aluminium grips and it is way to smooth for him so he has to put skateboard type on it. Now he wants to just get some G10's.

G10 and aluminum have exactly the same tickness and profile; it all comes down to which material you prefer.

IMO, aluminum looks much better but it's a bit more fragile. You can easily do touch ups with a black sharpy (If they're black of course ;)) .G10 seems to change color as they age and get used; I once washed mine with dish soap and it had some kind of white stains on it. It went back to black with use.

I have both types and would recommend the G-10's. The alums are nice but they get very cold in the winter and quite hot in the summer sun. They do show scratches as well but can easily be touched up. Some people have also reported that when using the G-10's the grip screws stay tighter although I haven't noticed this. The other advantage with the G-10's is that you can get them with "mild" to quite aggressive chequering.
