Hi,
Does anybody has used the Hogue Wooden Monogrips on S&W 686?
I installed one on my 686-7, wasn't really impressed. The wood & checkring and overall finish is good, but the style leaves a long, broad slit at the back all the way to the end.
I've used them, but it really depends what grip you are talking about. They have finger grooved, single finger groove, grooveless, checkered, smooth, etc.
FWIW, I preferred the single groove smooth grips on my 686.
Are you sure you have the correct grips for the 686 frame size? K frame grips will almost fit a N frame, but leave a gap as you described. Ask me how I know this
I have a set of Pauo Ferro Hogue grips on my N frame square butt. When I fit them on, there was a small portion of the backstrap sticking out; no big deal for 38 loads, but it was irritating for 357 loads.
I emailed Hogue about it; they wanted my gun sent in and they would fit the grips to the gun for me free of charge. When I told them where I lived, they led me through the process of removing the high point in the grips and sent me a refinishing kit.
