I understand the new Model Sevens are drilled four holes for scope mounts, instead of the older three hole pattern. I have an older SS .223 (3 hole) and would like to change it to use a two pc base instead of the std all steel, Leupold one pc on it.

Question ..... Will the rear bridge require two new holes or just one more to go with the original?

.

one new hole required.....

for what it's worth...Weaver did make a two piece base set for the M7 with one screw in the rear base....I had a set...worked fine...afterall...most one piece bases only have one screw on the rear...

I had my smith drill and tap an extra hole in my stainless M7/260Rem for a two piece base. I felt it was a good mod for my purposes. This was about a year before Remington thought of it. I later wondered if the custom hole spacing is the same as the new M7s? Still don't know as I never went to the trouble of comparing it.

I seem to remember it was just an aluminum Weaver set for a Rem 700. I looked at my gun and it has a #35 on the front by the barrel. The mount on the rear bridge was cut shorter so the number is gone. But I'm pretty sure I bought a #36.

PS - seems like mine is close to .320" center to centre. Probably not the spacing of the new M7s.
