Lol, if they are on at $50K, that’s a fire sale price and I’d run out and get one or two. Because the regular price for an H & H best shotgun is a lot closer to $150,000 Cdn. And that’s before you import it to Canada. Add more cash if the double rifle was your cup of tea.
They don’t look for skilled trades. They hire and train. An apprentice program that has been going on for well over 100 years.
Purdey, Boss and H & H develop their own skilled craftsmen, who are then highly sought after if they decide to leave and go out in their own.
And I was be'in a wise azz.
Very interesting how they regulated those barrels.

With H&H,that's what they require as a deposit,non-refundable,too. I've only ever seen one H&H double rifle and I swear there was an "aura" around it. Retail was $135K.
I was lucky enough to work at The Pattern Room in Nottingham for 5 weeks in 2003 (no longer there, sigh). I got time to visit both Holland & Holland and Purdey. I can tell you that when you actually handle either one, the price seems to be fair when you consider the work and quality. The samples I handled were amazing in every detail. The English scroll work engraving is beyond compare (for me anyways), the walnut spectacular, and the fit & finish is incredible.
That said, after visiting Piotti in 2004, if I was ever going to order a bespoke shotgun, a King grade Piotti is what it would be.

Without a doubt, a Holland and Holland is what all guns aspire to be. But, just as the Belgians, the Italians, and the Spaniards before them, the Turks make a full range of gun quality dictated only by the market. Unlike H&H, the market for Turkish made guns is at the low end of the spectrum. But, don't discount the Turks completely until you have a look at their premium bespoke models.
Essentially we're comparing Turkish guns made to a $1000 price point to Holland and Holland mastery that sells for 150 TIMES as much. Have you looked a Huglu's "LUX" and "LIMITED COLLECTIONS" models? They're not a threat to Holland and Holland, but they're quite astonishing at the price point.

There will be a finely crafted Purdey from 1930ish that I will be shooting at this Saturday's SxS shoot is Oshawa. Likely also a Holland & Holland also from between the wars. As well as some fine older best hammer guns. Come and see what they are like in person.

Agreed. Many folks have no idea of the quality of Japanese goods made long before the World Wars & since then. The Japanese have a very good work ethic that makes the average Western manufacturers look like slobs in comparison. South Korea is another huge powerhouse in manufacturing as well.
