Hollis Brothers & Co. any ideas on value?

English half stock precussion rifle, Hollis Brothers & Co. on lock. rifled bore measures .604 in. at the muzzle, hooked breech. Barrel 31 1/2, overall length 48 1/2. Well engraved with English scroll, single trigger, octogon barrel with damascus pattern, 1 in. across at muzzle. Three leaf express type sight on rear, tiny silver round post on front. Weight about 8 1/2 lbs. The rifle is in V.G. original condition, bore is V.G.-Excellent. Any idea on what it is worth, how much interest is there in this type of rifle?

Thats a very nice gun! I had a Revolver retailed by I Hollis and sons i wonder if these Hollis brothers are his sons either as retailers or gun builders.
The Antique Guns with I hollis and sons on there barrel tops fetch a good price.

But Long gun are not my area! but that Name is a good one to have on a British antique gun to be sure Fred!

The price and quality depends quite a bit on which Hollis is involved. Isaac Hollis made economy grade cartridge shotguns in the late 1800s while some of the other Hollis partnerships made much higher quality guns. The rifle in question would have been made 30 years before Isaac so he might have been a son rather than a father of the rifle maker.

Well...I'll take a stab at it. Back action locks are usually earlier models and there are issues with strength as a lot of the wrist is compromised with the inletting for the lock. That said....the Brunswick rifles with back action (first model) bring much higher prices than second and third models with standard lock position. "IF"...is has not been refinished, stock or wood, it will have a worth of about $1,000.00 here and probably 1,000 pounds in England. All depends on condition......good luck, Dave
