i am interested in possibly buying a holo sight or red dot for deer hunting. I am finding that hunting with a regular scope i can not get on target fast enough on moving deer or coyotes. Has anyone used either one of these and how do they like them?which kind do you have and how do you like them? How are they at say 100 yds? Thanks

I have had both. Presently I have a Halo sight on a .44 mag Ruger. Iam very pleased with it. The dot of course has mass to it not fine like a cross hair. But for hunting purposes it has all the accuracy you will ever need especially just out to 100 yards.

With either type your still looking at a coloured dot so either one will probably suit your needs just fine. I suggest you research whats currently available out there and buy the very best you can afford.

Friend of mine uses a Holo sight and loves it I have used a red dot sight before and they work great for running deer Holo sights are getting harder to find however they are great sights look at both and choose the one that works best for you

Your useing the wrong scope!
Any decent, proper magnification scope has a wider field of view than either of the two items you suggested.

Eotech 512, done. With practice, there is nothing wrong with it inside of 300 yards, anything past 100 yards I would recommend a variable power scope though.

I have a friend who put an EOTech 512 on a Browning BAR in 30-06. The great thing about the EOTech is that the dot is only 1 MOA so even at 200 yards it does not obscure much of the deer. Does it work? Well, in three years he has taken 6 shots, 5 on deer and one on a moose. The only shot he missed was on one deer that was running. The others were all one-shot kills at distances as far as 250 yards. For distances beyond 250 yards or so you need magnifying optics but for anything closer than that an EOTech or something similar will do the trick. He hunts in Ontario around Georgian Bay where shots beyond this distance are less common than say in the prairies.
