Holographic Sights For Hunting?

I was wondering if anyone has any experience using a holographic sight for deer hunting. I installed my EOTech Holographic sight for fun on my Browning BAR 30-06 and could not think of a reason why this would not work. Where I hunt, all my shots would be <100 yards. The advantage of having both eyes open for me would be great. Also, I am left-eye dominant and shoot right handed so it seems to make target aquisition very fast as opposed to my scope. Any experience good or bad?

Get an XPS 3-2 that way if you do need a longer shot the second dot is helpful ;)

Make sure you're zeroed right and I'd say you're good to go! they'll handle any recoil you can put me through, and are very fast for close range stuff.

Also, it you're feeling super sneaky it's also a bonus that no light comes out the front side, unlike most red-dots that have that little glow.

I really like mine on the shotgun for slugs n buck deer hunting. Turkeys as well

A few years ago, I put an EoTech with a 3X flip to side on my 7mm mag that I use for large game hunting. Will never go back. Same as you, all hunting is done short range under 200 yards. Fantastic for quick target acquisition.

Last deer I shot, I saw a white flash out of the corner of my eye, looked over and saw the head of a six pointer sticking up over a mound. Brought the rifle up quick and put one center of the neck. Dropped it instantly, don't think i could have made the shot trying to get on target with a regular scope.

Thanks for the replies. You have all confirmed what I expected its just I was getting the stink-eye from some of my friends who have a hatred of new technology. I'll give it a try this fall. Thanks!

Hey NIGHTFORCE, I was thinking about the 3X mag for medium range shots. How does it work with the Holosight?

Also, what should it be zeroed at??

if you magnification

if you want magnification have a look at the leupold vxr with the fire dot.I love mine.I was using a red dot one time and had a deer about 100 yds from me and only had a buck tag and could not tell if it was a small buck or a doe so i let it walk. From that point on i said never again will i be with out something with magnification.I was going to go with eo tech but with a mag. you are over 1000.00 Leupold 2-7 was 588.00 just something to think about

I understand your point but if it was 100 yards away and I only had an EoTech on my rifle and wanted confirmation - I'd use my 8x32 binos. For me the advantage of a holosight is the quick acquisition at close range in heavy timber while stalking. If I'm expecting to shoot 100yds (or more) then I'm using a scope.
