holographic sights

I will preface this as being a stupid question

And yes I did a search and nothing came up in regard to my stupid question.

So my girlfriend was playing Call of Duty Black Ops today and she leveled up. Now in the game she can change the colour and shape/icon of the reticle in the holographic sight.

She's interested in shooting, but anything gimicky will only help my cause so I'm wondering:

Is there a good resource somewhere which give examples of the options available in terms of the different reticles you can get in various models of holo sights?

And, I know I've seen green and red; "red dot sights" and it got me wondering do holographic sights come in any colours other than red? It would be cool if you could purchase them in other colours...like purple, amber, blue or emerald/green.

I know they're not cheap for good quality ones and yes I am asking this in all seriousness. IF I can find something like this, it will be her reward if she learns to use the iron sights.

Thank you in advance.

Google : " holosight reticules " or " Eotech reticules "...

Thanks captain obvious, I did that already.

I am having a difficult time finding examples of the different patterns. Lots of pictures of the optic, but not of the display it projects.

I figured this would have been asked before so I was hoping for a quick link.

Thanks captain obvious, to think I didn't do that i must be crazy or something:slap:

I'm not being a ####, I asked a question and got an answer I tried to avoid getting in the second sentence of my first post.

Still stands that when i search for "reticle" I get pictures of the various knock offs, or the sight it's self but not the display you see when you look through the sight.

Yea I call that the Call of Duty effect... My kids love that crap...

I think I should clarify here, that I have zero interest in various colours and patterns this is for my girlfriend. I'm partial to a 1moa dot that you can get on some sights but I figured I'd ask any way. I think it was 1 or 2moa anyway, never used any thing other than iron sights really.

Anyhow, thanks anyway.

We will probably need pictures of your girlfriend to see what kind of reticle is best for her.

Lol I see how it is; that sounds more like an off topic thread than an optics thread :p

Google is useless. They should have an image search, that would be good.

Sorry can you clarify?

I'll probably just end up trolling WSS and seeing what they have in stock for examples. Where else can you go to find optics besides pawnshops and places that sell firearms?

Would specialty camera stores have any scopes/holo sights?

i think what your asking does not exsist, acog sights have a bunch of different options but not exactly what your after i think...i think your stuck with red...or green i quess...personally i'd want a rainbow reticle...

like this ?

@Ftaview

Thank you, that didnt work for me when i first tried it. I used different search terms which is why I got nothing from the image search/regular google search.

Also, does any one have a sight like the second picture ftaview posted? As thats the kind of gimicky thing she wants, I don't care if it holds a zero. It is just for a .22 or later a cheap .223

@ matty86suk

Again this isnt for me, I'm perfectly fine with red. Although FYI I did find an amber dot from aimpoint I think.

Thank you all.

bobusboy, shooting will be a lot more fun for her if it does hold zero. Its never fun to aim at stuff and not hit it, you will frustrate the shooter. Camera shops don't carry optics, they typically have agreements with the distributors that prevents them from stepping on the toes of hunting shops...in Canada anyhow, online shopping will most likely give you the best luck in finding what you are after, pick the reticle and color you like and then narrow your search. Heard it once said, it takes a rich man to buy cheap optics if its going on a .223 buy a good one and explain to your girlfriend why a compromise may be a good thing as both you and her will get a lot more shooting pleasure out of it. Good luck with your search.

Thank you for the thoughful response. I hear what you're saying regarding it getting frustrating, but she's still in the "OMG IT GOES BANG AND PUTS A HOLE IN THE TARGET" phase....*facedesk*

She gets the stupidest(re:cutest) grin I've ever seen on anyone when shooting even though she couldn't the broadside of a barn.

When she starts caring whether she hits the target or not then it will be an issue and time for a better sight. She's quite happy with her .22 and as another user said earlier, she's suffering from the "Call of Duty" effect. So a little indulgence in order to keep her interested is in order for now.

still show us a pic of the gf, dressed as santas little helper or a clown. this will help us decide what she needs.

clowns.....you're a strange one lol.

I hear what your saying, but without pictures of your girlfriend its hard to offer the best advice ;)

Lots of good red dots & holosights out there, some very high value in looking at some of the Eastern European manufactures (Russian, Belarussian, Czech, etc). Generally well built, and half the price of a US model. Many of the Chinese models are crap, but cheap.
