Holosun AEMS

I ordered one of these from SRS Tactical and got my tracking yesterday, hoping to mount it and still be able to cowitness with the sights already on the firearm.

Did you ever get this? Got a scouting report on it?

Could it be used on shotguns?

Thx

Yes I did get it, haven’t had the chance to actually take it out and “use” it though. I assume the AEMS should be fine on a shotgun since I often see the smaller open reflex sights used in some YT videos.

Here’s my initial noob overview lol… It installed pretty easily on the Picatinny rail and I’m able to cowitness though the gap in the mount, which is perfect (I’m not sure if the intent is to have flip-up irons and co-witness through the lenses, or both options). The co-witness ability would probably depend on the particular sights and rail height for a specific model of firearm. The lowest part of the AEMS base which clamps to the rail does seem lower profile than some others from looking at pictures of some other models like HS403B (a $250ish budget holosun). A couple mm would be all it would take to obstruct the sights through the lower mount in my case. I disabled the auto brightness, because I found, for example, if I’m somewhere dark but looking somewhere bright, the reticle doesn’t show well. I wish the +/- buttons were on the top like some other holosun instead of the left side (I’m left handed). I learned I have a mild astigmatism but it varies if I strain my eyes to focus, need to learn to keep both eyes open. It’s still fine for me to use, but there are times I can see a 2moa dot in the 65moa circle that’ll shift into a 4-6moa cluster of grapes.

How are you finding the fisheye on it? I've been hearing pretty mixed reports about the AEMS over at ARFCOM (mostly due to Holosun's QC issues) where some users have horrendous fisheye, some say it's fixed with newer manufactured products, some dots are DOA or exhibit strange dot streaking characteristics, etc. Also, if anybody has experience passive aiming with them under NODs, please let me know. That's my primary criteria for selecting RDS optics nowadays and it's hard to find good ones that aren't EOTechs or Aimpoints.

I am very happy with mine, and don't notice any fish-eye whatsoever. Perhaps I am simply oblivious to that particluar shortcoming of the optic, but I don't think so. I do use it in conjunction with a Vortex Micro 3x Magnifier, which works like a charm for a very compact sighting system. YMMV, of course.
