Hi everyone,

Please excuse me if this is in the wrong subforum. I'm wondering if someone has a recommendation for a holster that would work for both a CZ Shadow, and a STI Trojan in 9mm? I'm guessing a CR or a Ghost holster would be able to switch between the two after some adjustments are made. Is there a better option out there?

As for mag pouches, I was thinking of going CR with the inserts to allow for single stack mags. What are people's thoughts on running all magnetic mag holders? Is this a good, bad, terrible, or insane thing to do?

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

I would stick with the CR Speed pouches and swap out the inserts when needed. A magnet is not a bad idea to have mounted to your first mag pouch, depending on what division you plan on shooting in (I'm thinking IPSC). I would not use a full deck of magnets (this would be insane) LOL on your belt as I don't want to say I told you so but they will fall off when you need them to be there most. I shoot Open division in IPSC and only use my magnet to hold my first mag at the load and make ready command.

A magnetic mag holder makes it faster to attach a mag when you pick it up off the table and stick it to your belt but your reload will generally be more reliable and faster if the magazine is presented in the exact same angle and position each time which the CR mag holsters will give you. With the magnetic holders, things sometimes fall off but more often then not, the magazine is canted a little forwards this time or back a little bit and there is more to fumble with when it is time to grab the mag and reload the pistol.

The Double Alpha Deluxe Magnetic Pouch will work with almost any magazine. I think there are a few other designs like this that support the magazine better for consistency.

Buy a Bladetech DOH or the similar version from Ghost for each gun as far as the holsters are concerned. Trying to swap parts back and forth is just asking for aggravation and trouble.

Yes! We sell these and I use magnets for my first 3 pouch positions. These ones maintain the angle for the magazines and the wings help prevent them from moving when you run. I still use an open style magnet in the first position for table pickups (faster).

Yes the DAA Racemaster holster with magnetic insert is a great holster and because you are looking at using it for different guns all you need to do is buy the correct insert and change it out and you only need one holster. they work slick and I as well sell them. Check out our website and we are in Alberta. Please email us at a-zone@telus.ca and I will send you the link to our website.

What's the name or URL of your website?

Thanks,

Sorry I am not allowed to put that on this site as I am not a paid dealer member so if you send me an email I will send you the info.

Thanks,

This, and never look back. Been running one for a while now, have inserts for Tanfoglio Limited Custom, Glock, S&W 625. Takes one minute to swap them out, and don't have to loose your holster settings.

Thanks Fast Toys. I received your email as well. Does anyone have any experience getting a STI Trojan in 9mm to work with the DAA Racemaster Holster. Sounds like some fitting may be in order.

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

The Trojan, like most traditional 1911's, has a rounded trigger guard. This is a problem with the DAA Race Master. I corresponded with Saul about this and he agreed that the rounded trigger guard and variations between 1911 manufacturers cause problems with the Race Master. Get the muzzle bracket to go with the Race Master and your Trojan will not roll back and forth in the insert. The muzzle bracket will not slow or hinder your draw in any way.

This is great explanation and solution. All the newer DAA Racemaster holsters are pre-threaded for the muzzle platform which we also stock. It adds an extra level of support and also some people find it prevents accidents on sitting starts etc as it makes the gun more difficult to knock out of the holster when unlocked.

Most people run 6 pouches. Max rounds for an IPSC stage is 32 rounds with no misses so that is at least 4 magazines and could have a jam, drop one etc.

Dumb question, but it seems that most people I see run at least one magnet...so is that 6 pouches + a magnet, or 5 pouches + a magnet for a total of 6?

Thanks,
Cal.
