Since I've lost most of my CF training certs (hey, it's been 20 years and half that many moves :D) when is TSE running it's next holster course? I'm sick & tired of not being able to use the Blackhawk holster I have!

haha ok so if i get it right you need a certification course to use a holster... lol

this is ridiculous does 6 months carrying a locked and loaded pistol on my hip in Garganistan
qualifies as a course???

Holster Course

It is the range/facility discretion to allow you (or not) to holster a firearm much like IPSC requires you to take their Black Badge course (which BTW is a great course) regardless of your experience with firearms. TSE holster course will always welcome responsible individuals regardless of experience. But rest assure that your experience in the military, law enforcement or shooting sports will always be a great asset. This course is about safety and follows the principles of well-known training schools such as SIG Academy. It's very cost effective and you get a lot of trigger time.

The basic holster course that TSE runs is a two evening group course (6hrs total) $50 for members, $75 for non-members...

The next course will hopefully be near the end of this month or the beginning of next... I'll email him and ask!

When I called I was told just to "add my name to the list" for the next course and then when enough people were on the list, they'd call me with a date.

There isn't a lot of advertisement for the course (yet), so until we have enough people for the course we create a waiting list. When we have enough, we set a date and call them all to see if the chosen dates will work for them.

Really don't think you need a holster course if you were in the CF. And why would you not be able to use the Blackhawk holster you have? If anyone asks you if you are "holster certified" (really a dumb term, almost as stupid as "assault rifle"), your answer would be that the CF seemed to think so when they trained you which should be good enough for anyone (except maybe for the IPSC guys :)).

It's at the club's discretion whether or not to allow a holster. As my post said, I've lost most of my CF training certs, and the range (most likely for insurance purposes) requires the shooter to have some kind of proof of training, such as the CF certs, before they will allow you to use a holster. It's their call.

Please Delete. Didn't realize this was in a dealer forum, thought it was in a general one.

Please let me clarify our position:

For the safety of ALL patrons, we require anyone who wishes to draw a loaded firearm from a holster to prove proficiency:

We accept training from a wide variety of sources including IDPA, IPSC, Gunsite Academy, Sig Academy, ITTA, Brinks, Securicor…. Etc…. the list is endless!

We have also been known to simply take a member on the range to let them “demonstrate” proficiency.

To ensure our own safety, we developed a “holster course” and grant certification for our members. Our course is 6 hours and covers a wide range of topics including holster selection and other things. It is really a well run course and I am very happy with the instructors we have administering it.

However, once again; if a member comes in with alternate training and can prove proficiency, then we let them carry on.

I would like to point out that I come from an Infantry background and I will state it here: Just because you say you’re proficient doesn’t make you proficient.

I don’t wish to inflame anyone, but as this is my sandbox, I think this policy is pretty sound to keep me from losing my house due to someone’s stupid bravado with a holster.

Regards,

JR

Reasonable. I guess the fact that there may be this bravado nonsense from some idiots warrants being careful. I guess when the shoe is on the other foot, one must also consider and worry about the morons too, and not just the ordinary normal folk.

Just a quick note of thanks to the TSE staff, and to StarHunter for teaching the course.

I must say it is an extremely good value, and for those who want a sound basis to build on, or those that have skills, but want a refresher to knock the rust off, I would say this is an incredible value for a course, and it would be tough to go wrong!!

Just my thoughts
