Holster help! QLS vs G-Code RTI

Hi guys.

I have decided I’m going to get a holster made by Solely Canadian. I want the holster for use in 3 gun competitions on a drop leg platform.

But....I also compete in IPSC and want to get into IDPA. Basically I’m addicted to dynamic shooting competitions and want the holster to be able to move from a drop leg platform to belt-mounted as is required by IPSC BC.

Now I have narrowed it down to Safariland’s QLS system or G-code’s RTI system. Both look good. Both have accessories such as drop leg platforms and belt slides to utilize the SAME holster in multiple positions. This saves me a ton of money ordering multiple holsters and allows me to not be constantly unscrewing a holster and reinstalling on different rigs.

I’m looking for first hand experience with what you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance :)

They both do the exact same thing, and are both made equally well. Pick one and run with it, either one will work.
I use a QLS, because it was what was available to me when I bought it. Had it been the RTI I would've went with that.
Find whatever’s the cheaper option or the more readily available option for you and that’ll be your winner.

I use the RTI , I like it, it has -never- come lose or given me worry. The lock is solid. I use to transfer it often but since purchased a dedicated second holster.

I imagine the QLS is close to / the same. Like FoxAlpha said pick what is easier for you to buy accessories for IMO. I think G-code (RTI) had a Canadian distributor problem and became harder to source but that was 1-2 years ago I'm unsure if they have that issue now.

I use a RTI Optimal drop platform and level 2 XST holster. Excellent quality, build to last. And Tim at Solely Canadian can fix you up with a nice custom holster with RTI platform for a very wide variety of handguns.

G-Code is available locally to you at Joint Force in Chilliwack I believe, have a couple of buddies who run them and like them a lot, and you can't go wrong with a Sol Can holster, Tim does fantastic work!

Thanks guys for all the advice. Joint force now only carries Safariland’s QLS/MLS/ELS setup’s. Seems like most people recommend Safariland, but RTI seems to make comparable stuff. Probably going to just end up going with g-code based on the wheel system which looks kind of neat.

Tim from solely, stocks both and I’ll just be ordering through him.

I just put together my IPSC rig and went with G-Code RTI since a few guys at the club run them and it will make things easier if I want to try one of their pistols out.

I heard about the distributor issues as well after talking with a ton of retailers trying to source the parts in country. RDSC was the only shop I found that had stock (it was listed as backorder, but when I emailed to inquire about timelines, they said it was all available).

Good luck!

For IDPA, be aware of the following rule:
Page 33: Q. For male shooters only, the holsters must fit the shooter’s body such that a 3⁄4 inch diameter dowel placed between the shooter and the firearm anywhere above the belt contacts both the shooter and the firearm simultaneously

I know the QLS adds 1/3” or so to the back of the holster, which may end up contravening the above rule. I’m unsure about the RTI system. Depending on where you shoot, this probably would only be an issue at sanctioned matches.
