Can someone tell me where/by whom, these holsters were used.
They are very heavy leather, designed for a specific revolver. There is a catch the trigger guide slides by, which keeps the gun from easily sliding out, yet can be pulled out, without too much force.
They certainly look to me like a police type holster, but I wonder what police force?
The two are identical, showing about the same amount of wear, which is quite significant.

Not positive Bruce but the one with the bsaket stamp pattern 'looks' a lot like one I saw years ago, made by Berns and Martin.

The basket-weave looks a lot like the Bianchi that the Calgary City Police and many of the armoured car companies used back in the 80's, before the "wonder 9's" came along. Positive retention, covered trigger guard. Made for the Smith and Wesson bull barrelled 38 special-4" barrel.

The first holster (the Boss) was in use by the OPP for many years with there S&W Model 10's. The MNR in Ontario also used them but the holster was brown. The second holster looks like the one used by the RCMP after transition from the brown flap holsters. This was a copy of one of the G & G holsters out at the time (circa 1992 I believe).

Thanks guys.
Is there any further details you would like to see a picture of, of either one of them.
Tac Man, do you know if there were any distinguishing marks on the former brown flap, RCMP holster you mention?
I know, there are a tremendous number of police and peace officer organizations across Canada, so I did give you a tough question. But my curiosity got to me!

Further to the Boss holster, it was also in use by numerous small town Onario police services such as Midland town police. I remember there was quite the stir over police switching to open top holsters like this because *gasp!* people could now actually see the gun. Now midland's police walk around with Glocks and nobody blinks an eye...go figure.

I will need to get back to you on that one! I don't remember at the moment. I believe the holster had the name of the manufacturer on the back of the loop. Also! They were made for the five inch model 10.
