Looking to get into speed steel and three gun. I need a holster for my Glock 17L, it's basically a G17 except long, so I would need something with an open bottom.

Check out Solely Canadian, not positive he makes one for the G17L, but worth looking into, Made in BC and also a site sponsor, fantastic holsters.

Definitely Solely Canadian. Tim is a very awesome and accommodating guy to deal with and his product speaks for himself. If all the guys cooking kydex professionally in this country, nobody even touches tims level of quality and his prices are reasonable.
Id imagine you'd want something simalir to my Glock 17/19 holster h made for me. Open bottom and can accommodate everything from a Glock 26 all the way up to your 17L, however the muzzle does poke out on the longer slide models but I don't see why anyone would want that much kydex hanging down anyways.

Give him a shout, you won't be disappointed.

solely canadian does indeed make dedicated g17L holsters that cover the full barrel length, myself and stevo purchased some from him last year.

side benefit is every other glock 9/40 fits in the same holster, from the g26 to the g24

I haven't tried Soley Canadian but I see they use the standard BladeTech/CompTac hole pattern for mounting. You could always start with that and add a speed drop/offset (Stoeger Boss or similar) at a later date if you want more 'racey'.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to go with a roto paddle holster from IMI of Israel, and a molle attachment. It has a button lock you push with the trigger finger. Seems similar to the 5.11.

I take it you are not going to get a black badge then? Or maybe the rules are different in BC?

I wouldn't go with a Serpa style holster, there are some competitions where they are not allowed due to safety issues, I would suggest a good retention holster with NO button to push, any time you are pushing buttons with your trigger finger opens you to accidents

Ontario's a bit ahead of the curve on banning the Serpas and Serpa-likes; but it won't be long before the rest of the country catches up. ;)
They're just a really bad idea for competition use. Dallas Police, Homeland Security, LAPD and IDPA have all banned them, I'm pretty sure...

I have no idea what the rules are, it seems like an exclusive club. No one has returned any of my emails about their upcoming shoots. All I found was one guy in Abbotsford that does the course, on his site it says you need a holster. Nothing about any button holsters. I feel like that's information that would have been far more useful to me before I ordered my holster. Haha. Oh well, maby I can modify it.

Please don’t modify a holster, esp. the safety retention mechanism. You set yourself up for all kinds of indefensible trouble if something goes wrong. Just get a Bladetech holster, if you want relatively inexpensive or SolCan, if you want Canuck made quality.
