So I finally got to shoot my first shotgun...Remy 870 tactical....what a canon!!!

Tried several different ammo's, both shot and slugs. Really liked the managed recoil slugs from remington.

How should I be practicing my shooting? From the standing or prone positions. How do they shoot in competitions?
 
No kidding....the knoxx stock was fully engaged with the 3" magnums......thank god:)

So is shooting a shotgun from the prone position a dumb question?:confused: Standing only?

I can't wait for my next fix of firearm bliss........:)

Not a dumb question - no strict rules stating that you absolutely can't :) I suppose it all depends on what use you may be subjecting that shotgun to - one example, if your were out hunting deer (with a rifled bbl attached to the firearm) and had an opportunity to attempt a longer shot (within reason :) ) from a prone position then why not.....

IMHO, regular practise shooting off-hand though will make you a much more steady shot.

Good advice I'm sure......I know that I do need practice. At least get some more rounds through me. I'm still so pumped to shoot that I can physically feel the adrenaline pour through me just prior to pulling the trigger.
 
Hey jmcdowall, does your 870 tactical have a 14" barrel? If so please advise where you found it.

Also does anyone know if a tactical would be any different than an 870 express in quality?

for fun try diferent targets-plastic bottles full of water. ice, golf balls,and of course gophers! Try to find someone that can give you pointers to watch you shoot,it's helpful. Have fun AJ
 
Maddog- nope....18" barrell that came with it. But the 3 shot extension that came with it matches up perfect to make one badass looking cannon.

Thanks for the ideas AJ.....water, ice and plastic bottles are a plentiful resource around my place.....

I got this from another site. It was american, so I think we can replace "Police" with "Tactical" in the following statement :

The police version (and wingmasters) are made like remigton engineers say they should be.

expresses are made by the accountants. still tough, but the details are lacking. I think the military police versions are made to last longer than one lifetime and have forged tool steel parts vs. cast and plastic pieces. various cosmetics are finished nicer on some models as well.

"What is the difference between a Remington Express and a Police Magnum?"
The Remington Police Magnum shotgun is built heavier to withstand the abuse and pounding that police departments inflict on their gear. It has a metal trigger assembly versus the Express's plastic assembly. The Police Magnum also has heavier springs (7 lb. sear disconnect spring versus's the Express's 5 lb. disconnect spring). The Police Magnum has a 22 inch magazine spring versus a 16 inch magazine spring in the Express. The Police gun comes with a heavier lifter spring. Each Police Magnum comes with front and rear sling swivel studs. These are just some of the differences in the two guns. Remember, you get exactly what you pay for. Both models function the same and digest the same ammo, so if you are inclined to inflict this type of punishment on your guns then consider a Police Magnum. Otherwise the Express model will serve you very well.
