holy crap load

I had a look at the hodgdon site to get a feel for the velocity. It's about 150 fps faster than the best max loads there.....maybe a fast barrel, maybe he's stepping on it real hard.

What do you mean by FPE (I'm thinking you mean FPS - feet per sec)?

From what I saw listed FPS was 2705. Had a look at a few of my reloading books and couldn't find anything for 275 grn but from looking at data for 250 and 300 grn I would say he might be pushing the envelope a bit. According to my books that veloclity is more suited for 225 grn.

I would be a bit reluctant to shoot them.

My 338 load is 72 grs RL 22 and a 265gr herters round nose
My chrony said it was 2700 fps and change, my brother inlaws chrony said 2850fps
my sons said 2475fps. I still use that load and the moose and bear don't care.
I don't use a chrony any more. I load up until I see primers start to flatten and back off some.

really? thats messed up. and by 4475 fpe i meant foot pounds of energy. if it was 4475 fps that would be like a necked down 20mm nyati or something nuts.

Some of the loads on reloader's nest need to be taken with a grain of salt...some are just plain pipe bombs ! :D

About that load the speed looks more of what I would expect in a "normal" 250gr. load . Hard to say....I wouldnt' use it unless I carefully worked it up.

I was looking at the website link and didnt see the FPE listed so made an assumption. I think I understand where you got the FPE number:

(bullet grain x velocity squared)/450400 = energy in ft lbs.

my apologies.

4475 fps is getting pretty high, but can get close to that with light gr bullets with my 22-250 1:14 twist (not that i have tried or nor do I have a desire)
