Anyone touched up their stock trigger in their ar15 to make it a little lighter pull?

I've done trigger jobs on 10.22's by just polishing parts so they slide over each other better, but not on an AR..

Ideas? Should I just leave it alone and get a jewel trigger or match trigger or something instead?

cutting the leg will reduce the amount of force in your hammer spring. You might be trading a light trigger for reliability. I polished the engagement areas and the pins for a much smoother yet heavy trigger pull. Just smoothing by putting them in a drill and polishing them with chrome polish will eliminate the grittyness of the trigger pull.

I did the "15 Minute Practical Trigger Job" (http://www.geocities.com/molonlaberkba/triggerjob.html) on my AR-180B which uses the AR-15 trigger group. I followed the instructions exactly, including cutting one leg off the trigger spring. Worked like a charm and I've not had single misfire or reliability problem after 200+ rounds of commercial .223 ammo (Win and Rem). Haven't tried it with any mil spec 5.56 ammo.

This trigger job definately lightens the pull and smooths thing out.

Thanks guys, I hadn't seen any replies on this one, so I went at it myself last night and just polished the contact areas. Didn't change the pull much, but certainly made the break cleaner and the travel was nice and smooth as well. I'll check out the links.

Cheers!

Good stuff. I do this too. It's transformed a couple of triggers and takes minutes. Be careful that all you're doing is gentle polishing though.

anybody have pix of drilling thru the grip area to put in a screw to change the trigger pull?

This is accomplished by drilling through a spare grip screw and installing an adjustment screw through the grip screw to shorten the trigger creep. It does not lighten the trigger pull.
