Home from New Zealand

WOW Absolutely incredible scenery and pics! I could only dream about going and hunting there.
Thanks for sharing this with us sheephunter. NZ is definitley on my to-do list as of right now! It looks like one of those countries that I'd not want to come home from.

Wow, and I thought gas prices were high here! Living down there it'd be cheaper to run your car on blood.

Well you do have to multiply by .75 to equal the Canadian dollar but ya, fuel prices and restaurant meals were quite expensive there. Lots of small cars and lots of small diesel trucks.

Thanks sheephunter for that post. I am a kiwi, and a very keen hunter. Some beaut pics there including a really nice old Bull tahr. can I ask how long his horns are?
Thanks again for the post

regards

James Morris

Vanessa's was 12" and mine was 12.5".

Im sure some of it does, but do you bring any back with you or did you go strickly for the hunt. Ive always wondered about that myself, if its possible to freeze dry or something some of the goodies to bring home.

Sadly it's not permitted to bring it back to Canada. Even the trophies must be specially dealt with before they can be shipped to us.

Very nice, thanks sheephunter. I really like the age of them-I cannot find an uploaded pic of my old bull, but will grab one next time I am home. Every year they are winter anorexic, their horns stop growing and it gives them a "ring"

Here is a pic of an old nanny, she is about 12 years old :)

Did you keep the skin for a floor rug? They look impressive! Here is the skin from my old bull. He was 13 years old and 13 1/4"

The animal-beautiful! but I still prefer the Chamois ;)

Ya, our sheep and goats have the same rings over here...pretty cool. Congrats on some great critters. I really enjoyed hunting New Zealand and will be back!

I see you two shared a rifle- this place isn't called 'gunnutz' for nothing.... what kind was it? :D

It's sad you couldn't bring home any meat for personal consumption. I'm a fan of coolers and dry ice. ;)

Rifle and load?

Would you mind giving us a rough idea of the cost? Looks like a great experience and is one I hadn't considered until now.

Congratulations on some fine animals.

Vanessa and I both shoot the same rifle very well so travelling with only one made life a lot simpler. We were shooting a Rocky Mountain Rifle in 270WSM with a Zeiss 4.5-14x44 Conquest with Rapid Z 800 on top. We shot 140-grain Accubonds out of it. As most shooting was 300-450 yards, we were well equipped.

When all is said and done, you are likey look at around $20k for a hunt with all of these species. Roughly the same as a free-range plains game hunt in Africa.
