Has any body ever tride one of those LITTLETON SHOTMAKERS
that makes lead shot? do they work well ? how good is the shot if made with scrape lead? WHEEL WEIGHTS

go too trap shooters . com . then ask your question . when shot went through the roof there was a lot of info changing hands . if you get free lead and dont mind toxic fumes you may save a little . there was 1 guy if you sent him your lead he would make it and kept his share for making it . there seemed too be a lot of guys doing that way .

hey JP - that machine does work well
there are a couple guys at the club that make their own shot too- i will try and catch you to talk to you about it

They work well but it takes a bit of playing around to get the process down. Controlling the lead temperature is a bit tricky at first but after some experience is gained it gets pretty easy to make decent shot.

I realize this is an old thread, but, for those with experience, does the homemade shot (LITTLETON) shoot much different (accuracy, density, etc)?
Thanks

For bush and hunting, this would be a neat idea, however I'm skeptical about how many clubs, especially near major centers, would actually let you use it, simply due to ever tightening ammo restrictions. 7.5 is the max at (I dare say) all skeet/trap/sporting ranges, so if you show up with home made shot, it could pose serious liability issues (eg Dewinton MUST say target on the box, nothing that even says field). FITASC actually outlaws totally the use of reloads.

My 2 cents aside, it's neat that the option is out there.

You just have to screen the shot so you get nothing over 7.5

It's the liability issue more than anything. You may have the best screen out there, but without destructive testing there is no way to prove it to the range (or the lawyers); with commercial ammo, even if there is a screw up, you, and the club, can look at the box and go "see, it' says 7.5".

I suspect that 99% of ranges in canada and 100% of the dozen or so I have visited have never checked ammo. Tons of people reload, even with commercially available shot, you could use any size, fortunately most people are honest.

Same here since probally 1965 and the only time I could not use reloads and ammo was checked was some competitions never for just practise or fun and I have shot at a ton of different clubs also
Cheers

Where does the liability come into play?? If one uses No.8 vs 7 1/2 never witness this before so curious
Cheers

On the home made shot I say to each their own.
I have tried it various times from different guys at the club and always got the same results.
It is fine if you are just shooting for fun and in a gun that you really don't put a lot of value on
The patterns are not consistant and the sparks that come out of the end of the barrel at dusk or during night shooting are real apparent and obviously wearing something compared to factory shot plus the smell of old rubber tires I don't like
Yes all of the home made shot I ever used was made from old wheel weights
Cheers

They don't care if you are using #8 instead of 7 1/2. The problem comes into play when you start using bigger shot (e.g. #5 or #6 or bigger) instead of 7 1/2.

Sorry my mistake, I should have said no. 6 what makes the larger shot an issue?? Does distance or something come into play
