Homebrew case counter - anyone made one?

I've been kicking around ideas for brass case sorting and case counting. I seem to recall a thread where someone had made a case counter out of a bicycle cyclometer or some such, but I don't seem to be able to find it.

Anyone made one that's workable and inexpensive to build?

There is a couple of examples on youtube but they are mounted to a progressive loader like a Dillon or a Lee. I remember seeing one that was made from a cheap dollar store pedameter (think that is the spelling) where you track how many steps you have taken when you go for a walk. He simple took it apart and wired the shell plate so that everytime it went up it would count.
