Hi, been into the holy black for years been thinking of a good winter project, just try to assemble everything. Anyone out there know were to find raw cow horns so i can make my own powder horn at home. Thanks

Horns are difficult to find in Alberta. Most cattle are deformed and with the mad cow stuff not very many cattle are allowed to live long enough to get large horns.

if you have a small slaughterhouse close to where you live, you might ask them. Possible they might be occasionally handling cows which have not been dehorned. If you do find one/some let the tissue between the bony core rot for a few days then put the bony portion in a vice and twist the horn with your hands; it should pop off. You do need to remove some horn down at the base to expose the bony core

Aside from Tandy and Track of the Wolf, check around your area to see if there are any guys farming bison. The horns are black, if that interests you at all.

There is a Buffalo ranch near Airdrie AB - I got hides (raw) and heads with horns BUT its a BOOGER to get the horns separated from the skulls until all the flesh inside the horns have disentigrated... with not much work the rough coating of the horns can be filed off leaving a deep black color and with some car polish/wax the finish is brilliant.
