I have a Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag with a Burris Fullfield 3x9x40. I am looking to upgrade from this glass to something better. I am not into huge glass, however something around the same dimensions but with better quality glass. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

A Leupold III is not that big of a step up from the Burris, if at all. Honestly, if your not happy with the Burris glass you have a hard job ahead of you.

Changing from a Burris Fullfield to anything else will make a noticeable and significant change only in your purse.

I agree with that except for the last part, there is better quality glass, but be prepared to shell out.

Thanks for the input gents. Reason why I am enquiring into this is because some knothead once told me that whatever the dollar value spent on the rifle is supposed to be doubled for the glass. I think the guy was full of $h!te!

Don't have to take this wisdom literally. It just means that dont' put a crap $80 scope on your $2000 magnum rifle. Match the quality, not the pricetag. (but after a certain level even a little quality improvement comes with a huge price imcrease)

I would look at a Zeiss Conquest then go up from there. Best bet is to go to an optics dealer, someone who knows their stuff and look through a bunch. The internet is full of experts who most of time talk alot of b.s

I have a leupold VX11 on my Ruger77 7Mag and love it. This scope is excellent at low light conditions. A burris is also on my Ruger 77 30/06 and is also an excellent scope. If you are happy with the scope and it works for the conditions you want keep it . Just my 2 cents worth.

Don't worry about what other people tell you. If you're successfully hunting with the setup you have why worry? If it ain't broke don't fix it.
If you happen to borrow someone else's rifle and they have a different scope that you find to be better, then think about changing. That's what happened to me last fall. I had a problem with my rifle and had to borrow my friend's that was topped with a Leupold VX-L. I've never really believed that those $1200 scopes were really much better than the $600 ones, but in this case I was so impressed with the low light abilities that I had to get one. Now I'm saving up for my second one, although it's more for the ability to mount the scope extra low on the rifle in addition to the low light ability.
FWIW I think Burris Fullfield and Bushnell 4200 optics are equal to Leupold VXIII and VX-L, but there's more to a scope than just clarity.
