Does anyone have info about a Hopkins and Allen double barrel shotgun? It has 28" barrels looks to be choked mod and full 20 ga. Double triggers and extractors. Receiver was case hardened at one time but most of the colors have worn off. Barrels are bulge free and still has some blue and not pits, Bores are mirror shiny. Any idea of value without photos?

Hopkins & Allen were in the low to mid priced business, primarily "hardware" store guns. Not particularly collectable and generally thought to have been made to a lower standard of quality than the big six names of American SxS production.....Fox, Parker, LC Smith, Ithaca, Lefever and Remington.

The company was out of the shotgun business by 1915. Pre-1898 H&A arms are marked Hopkins & Allen Mfg Co. Post 1898 are marked Hopkins & Allen Arms Mfg Co.

Without photos, in working condition, this is likely a $200 to $300 USD gun in the US. In Canada, which generally has lower values for old SxS, I'd guess it's still in the $200 Cdn range.

The caveat here is there is very little in the way of description on which to base a price estimate. Functionally impossible without good photos. But it's no valuable gun sought by collectors.

Thanks for the info. It is a post 1898. I haven't taken any pics yet as I got it last night. Probably later today I'll take some. Not sure yet if I will sell it or keep it. Nice little walking around shotgun. Wood is nice condition with no splits, just a few small chips. Thanks again.

These can be perfectly usable shoguns; not top line, as mentioned, but quite serviceable. I think a 20 bore would sell for more than a 12.

If it is in nice shape, as you describe, I'd probably keep it and use it. A 20 should sell for more than a 12 but these are small dollars we are talking about. Skip a couple visits to Starbucks (hahaha) and there's the difference.

I should have said in my first post.....big difference between collectable and good/usable.

I realize a difference between collectable and usable and the little difference between 12 and 20. (I don't go to Starbucks when I have to describe what I want in a coffee when double/double is much easier) lol Thanks all for the input.
