Hi fellow nutters
I would like to reload 12 ga Sabot rounds to duplicate the Hornady 12 GA 300 gr FTX® Custom Lite (Item #86230) or SST® Slugs (8623).
Hornady website says they’re loaded with 300 gr, .500” FTX handgun bullets (50102).
Does anyone know what wads/sabot sleeves, powder type and charge weight, primers, hulls, crimp type and crimp former I would need to create the finished rounds?
Looks like they’re roll crimped too. Would I need to use shorter hulls than the ones used with star type crimped rounds for bird shot.
Guessing they work best in a rifled bore barrel?
Thanks for your help

The stuff you're looking for is at Ballistics Products. They specifically designed a sabot for 50 cal bullets (though the first attempts weren't the greatest), they have the data, and anything else you might need. As well as other types of slugs to try out...
There are a few dealers in canada that carry some or all of their products. Will Bilozir has been great to deal with. Not sure if he's a sponsor so I won't link his website, but google knows where it is.
I have a bunch of the older sabots, and had a stash of 500S&W bullets, but somebody shooting a 500 paid a premium to talk me out of them before I got to try them...one day I'll give the sabots a try with the Lee 440gr boolits...
