I picked up some bulk Hornady 3037 bullets for use with my Norc M14. The cannelure seems to be quite high up on the bullets, and when I seat them so that the cannelure is at the case mouth (brass at 2.005"), I'm winding up with a stupidly short COL...like 2.710". Is there any problem with seating them farther out...other than the obvious "you won't be able to crimp on the cannelure" issue?

I guess you're right...the Winchester Super X 150s I've got here are 2.7...they just look so stubby compared to the surplus stuff I've been using.

Just for kicks, I seated one of the Hornady bullets out way too long on an empty case, then chambered and forced the bolt closed. The resulting round came out at 2.87". Can I conclude that at 2.71", my 150s are jumping ~.17" before engaging the lands? Seems a bit much to me, but I haven't had a chance to take them to the range yet...maybe they shoot great :p

I need to get a set of those overall length gages, and the bullet comparator thingies.
