I have developed a load using Hornady 350 gr FP for my 1895 for moose hunt this fall. It shoots just under 2000 fps. From another forum I heard that this bullet is very fragile.

Do you have any experience using this bullet for hunting? Please comment.

I've used the round nose version in the 45-70. In my limited experience on big game with that bullet (two decent-sized white tailed bucks), I found it to be a very good penetrator (all the way through on quartering shots).

I wouldn't expect the flat nosed version to fall apart at 2,000 fps or less (that's a big chunk of lead and lots of inertia :) ).

I have had good luck with that bullet. The Remington 405 sp is a fragile bullet at speeds over 1450 fps. I hope that you have some tylenol for after your sight in sessions. That low comb Marlin must rattle your teeth with that load.

cheers Darryl

who ever said that is an idiot.

have shot 5 bears and 2 moose with the Hornady 350gr FP (2150fps MV) and have nothing but great things to say about it.

from shattering both shoulders (and exiting) of a 7'1" Blackbear inside 25yrds (Final shot on that animal was from 6paces), and exiting a moose (broadside shot) @ 150yrds, this bullet preforms well. it;s the only bullet I'll shoot out of my .450

here are some pics of the only 350gr FP I have recovered. quartering away shot on a moose @ 70yrds. broke a rib on the way in, turned heart and lungs to goo, broke scapula, and was found in a bulge under the offside hide. penetration was about 4ft!

Amphibious:

Thanks for response. Your 2150fps load is hot. But obviously it works well for your 450.

This is cool. I am ready to rock & roll in October.

Very useful stuff.

I plan to use the Honady 350 gr RN this fall. Think I'll stick to about 2100 fps in my "yet to be named" shortened 458 Win Mag.

My experience is the same as Amphibious. It penertates well without break up. The only time I have ever heard of one breaking up was a close shot (few feet) to a whale (beluga??) head.

I have cut one in half. The jacket is quite thick at the base, problably 3x thicker than a Remington 405g jacket.
