Hornady 45/70 300 grain interlocs and h322 powder

I have used H322 with the 350 grain bullets; never with the 300s. I am sure it will work, but it will likely be less than optimal, as the 4198s have a slightly faster burn rate and may be better suited to the 300 gr. bullets.

300gr Interlock? I didn't know they made such a thing.

I contacted Hornady with the same question after I purchased a couple of boxes of 300gr.HP's ( item#4500 ) because "InterLock" didn't appear on the boxes ( they're listed in the InterLock bullet section of the catalogue ).They confirmed that the bullets were an InterLock design.

H4198 is an outstanding powder for the modern 47~70 cartridge. Lower throw weights, exceptional velocities with the lighter bullets & good accuracy. My personal experience reloading 45~70 guided me away from the heavy & super heavy bullets in favour of faster, lighter bullets. It’s Weatherby’s principle: light bullets at very fast speeds.
If you can find some, the HORNADY 325 grain LEVEREVOLUTION bullet is outstanding.

Thanks,I do have 50 of the 325 grain lever bullets, they work very good, but I'm saving those for when I have empty leverevolution brass.these 300 grain will be loaded with federal brass ,cci large rifle primers and 52 grains of h322 powder,I made 3 rounds and was very happy with the results.so far the short cabine barrel likes a lot of different ammo.

I'm having trouble getting the bullets crimp right with my Lee loader, being very carefull im still seating the bullets too deep, just a slight bit but still not perfect.only 51 grains oh h322 so not too hot of a load.they group well.Any suggestions?i tried backing out the Lee loader but then the bullets come no where near where they need to be seated in the case.trial and error I guess.the ftx rounds loaded up way more easier.
