Was wondering if anyone is using the Hornady 60sp in 223 for yotes and possibly deer. On yotes what’s the hide damage compared to other rounds

Have used the Hornady 60gn SP, and the Sierra 63gn projectiles for years in the 222, 223, and 22-250. All were loaded up to use as big game cartridges, tahr, chamois and red deer. They are an excellent projectile for bigger game, so long as you put it in the right place. Sadly we dont have any yotes here in NZ, but we do have wallabies which are thin skinned and about the same size as yotes. They certainly knock them over with authority, and will do some damage if you hit in the very small chest region. Should work well with yotes if you take out the front shoulder.

Shot 1 coyote with the 60gr from my 223. With the 16.5" barrel I didn't get much velocity. #### thru both lungs broadside at about 50 yards or so it ran across the field and died in the next. I switched to 55gr sierra game king HP and every yote since has dropped in its tracks

You didn't mention your hunting distance for deer but I harvested my 2024 doe with a head shot at 30 yards using my 223 handloads loaded with a Hornady 55gr SP.

It's not what you would see on Youtube with the head exploding. Just a nice size exit hole. Definitely destroyed the skull but the hide kept everything in tack.

If I want better bullets I can load some nosler 60g partitions up. Might even get lucky that they would shoot close to same point as Hornadys

I have some 50 or 55gr gmx bullets. Never used them but I've heard they hold together well. Personally going with the minimum I'd choose the cup and core design for the fragmentation and greater wounding potential

The 60 grain Hornady loaded over W748 or W735 has been one of the most accurate bullets I have ever tried in any .223/5.56. It absolutely hammers beavers and coyotes and I have never recovered one. They always seem to hang together and pass through.
