I have a Olympic Arms AR-15 with a 1-7 twist barrel. I have gotten some Hornady #2279 75 GR BTHP bullets. Does anyone have reloading data and OAL lenght for this bullet?

OAL is listed at 3.250. Any longer and you will have to single load. My Hornady book has a page for service rifle loads (AR) which lists loads for both 75 gr BTHP and 75 gr A max bullets (which definately have to be loaded singly, OAL is listed at 3.390). For Data go to 6mm BR website and scroll down to .223. If you read it you can pull up data specifically for AR's.

2.260" OAL is max I thought, if you want to feed from a mag. just sayin

I guess you didn't read close enough, I said the A max bullets have to be loaded singly (which means by hand)

I'm using H4895 powder and CCI 450 primers for the 75g #2279 projectiles in AR15-pattern rifle in .223 Rem. LOA 2.250 for magazine usage.

Using Hornady #8 load data.

This needs to be a sticky or something...... go to the powder manfacturer and look up their load data on-line. Unless you are shooting something the shape of a cigarette with a weird bearing surface, 75 grains in one bullet is going to be the same (or safe enough) going 75 in another bullet. Someone is going to get killed following some wild goose chase anecdotal load info. As to COAL, it is a useless measurement. Develop your loads to shoot most accurately, regardless of how short/long they are...Bullets should be seated in relation to your barrrel's rifling. too long, and the bullet falls out of the case or the bolt won't close. Too short and the bullet falls into the case.

Unless you are single-loading, COAL for AR15 pattern is prescribed primarily by magazine box dimension limits, not the chamber throat.

Hi,

This is my favorite bullet for a fast twist 223 and I've been using it for years. I've been running 24.0 gr of win 748 with commercial brass and 23.5 of 748 with military (IVI) brass. Works like a charm! Stick to the 2.26 or less for mag length (make sure you check for mag function as occasionally you may find one a little longer - you definitely don't want to find out at a match ;-). If you want to single feed, I load 2.31 for my bolt gun. The powder is ball so it meters very well and groups sub 1 moa (usually 1/2" or less) with my 1/7 twist Armalite 20". Hope this helps! Cheers

P.s. As always.... check your brass for signs of pressure. You shouldn't see any but stranger things have happened. This is my disclaimer in the event you blow up your gun. This message will self destruct :D
