Hornady Dies?

I have one set of Hornady dies, in .45-70. While they 'do' the job I've had better overall luck with RCBS, and have since purchased RCBS for that calibre. When I was loading 9mm & .45 ACP I used RCBS dies, carbide, and also an RCBS taper crimping die for both. If I should ever go back to loading those calibres, those are the dies I'd go back to.

Dies are dies. They're pretty much all the same in my experience. Though I do like the sleeved Hornady seater die, this is the same concept as the benchrest seaters (minus the micrometer)

I have one set of Hornady dies. All the rest are RCBS and Lee. The Hornadys are my least favorite, and while I've been incredibly impressed with the warranty service from RCBS, Lee gets the nod for initial value.

I have two sets and am not impressed, I do recommend redding dies though that come with the allen key and a spare decapping pin

One may be as good as the other, and perhaps the Hornady set I have is a poor set but I've found a definate difference compared with the RCBS set I've recently purchased. The Hornady set, with the sleeved seater tube, appear very similar to a set of Bonanza bench rest dies I have for 7x57 Mauser. Emphesis on appear because that's where the similarity ends.

I've switched all my RCBS and Lyman and LEE dies over to the Hornady New Dimension Dies (Custom Grade, yada yada yada).

I broke too many decapping pins with the RCBS and Lyman sets. I'm over them. At least with Hornady, I just asked them for a few of the spare spindles and they sent them to me. Great customer service, I feel. YMMV....

I own Hornady dies for these calibers: 9mm Luger, .223, .308, 6.5 x 284 Norma, and .30-06.

All of my DCRA NSCC/CFSAC gold medals were won with loaded ammo from the Hornady dies (and Projector press alongside RCBS Rockchucker). I cannot argue with success. Go with whatever your budget and your game is comfortable with. All the brands will work out in the end.

I've got a couple of sets of Hornady dies. They aren't bad, but I much prefer RCBS or Redding (sorry Barney! ) Both of the latter companies make superior reloading tools & dies, and RCBS has the absolute best customer service & warranty in the business. They treasure customer loyalty and they deserve it! As for LEE, while they certainly price their stuff attractively for the first time buyer/newbie...I've learned that its far "cheaper" to buy the equipment you'll eventually end up with...or, "...buy cheap, buy twice!"

I also have been buying only Hornady dies lately. I really like the seating dies. One issue I have come acrross with the Hornady dies is the funny shaped lock rings do not work with my Lee turret press. Had to switch them out for Lee lock rings.

I have only used Hornady's neck sizing dies,(7mm & 30.06) with a Lee or a RCBS seater, I have no complaints, I like the ease of use with these dies.
Thinking about getting another Hornady neck sizer for the 340Wby, so as not to work the brass so much as a full length die would do.

My preference, overall, is still RCBS although I do have a few sets by other manufacturers. My Lyman, Lee and especially my Bonanza dies are good but I think RCBS sets the benchmark. My .45-70 Hornady dies are going for sale or trade at the next gun show.

They do try to pack a lot of value into their dies.Tha latest ones with the new spindles are best of both worlds,collet centering and threaded adjustment. Older ones need more cuts on the collet. I had problems with my 6.5mm seater,it vaccum locked up,a breather hole and a chamfer fixed it.They work well if you modify them.

At AR they did a thread on dies,Hornady and Redding got the most compliants.
