On the hornady web site the kinetic (hammer style) bullet puller has item#050090, and says that it fits all rifle and pistol bullets up to 45 caliber.

I ordered one from a Canadian retailer without specifying a caliber (although I also ordered components and dies for several 30 cal and smaller rifles) and the unit arrived with the same item#, but clearly states:

"Fits rimmed, rimless, and belted magnum rifle and pistol cartidges (their typo, not mine) from 32 Auto to 416 Remington."

I'm sure the retailer will help me get what I need on Monday, but I'm curious if anyone knows why the web description for the same item is so different than what I received. Is the one I got an older model perhaps?

It could be that the case of the .416 Remington Mag is bigger than any .45 out there. I believe .416 REM MAG is a belted magnum case, which makes it pretty fat at the base. I would check with a .45 case before complaining because they may be giving you something that is even bigger. I have a RCBS hammer puller and it comes with 1 collet and I have a DILLON puller and it comes with 3 different collets, but some people just use the proper shell holder in place of the collet because it is easier than diddling with that rubber o ring. How is it too big for .303 ? I know they don't usually come with any or much in the way of instructions, but are all the parts there and are you using it right. There is usually 3 pieces of metal held together with an O-ring, the case slides through the hole in the middle, sometimes into little grooves , sometimes not depends on company, then a large plastic nut is tightened down on the base and you whack it on something hard like a block of wood, not a concrete floor if you want the devise to last very long.
