Hi all, I started reloading this year and I'm using a Hornady LNL AP with the Case Activated Powder Drop.
Works well but it's kind of a PITA to change caliber right now with only one powder measure. For instance, last caliber change (9mm -> 50AE), in addition to changing the sizing dies, bullet dies, shell plate and priming insert, I had to do this for the new powder:
I want to ask someone who does frequent caliber changes with the LNL AP what is needed to do quick changes of the powder measure. Right now my best guess is that I need:
Am I on the money or did I miss something? Thanks.
Works well but it's kind of a PITA to change caliber right now with only one powder measure. For instance, last caliber change (9mm -> 50AE), in addition to changing the sizing dies, bullet dies, shell plate and priming insert, I had to do this for the new powder:
- Remove upper assembly with hopper and empty powder (hard to remove all the powder)
- Change rotor and metering plunger from pistol rotor/pistol metering plunger to rifle rotor/standard metering plunger
- Change powder sleeve in the lower assembly die
- Put back together
- Re-screw the powder drop die to the correct depth to operate the powder measure correctly because the new powder sleeve has a different length.
I want to ask someone who does frequent caliber changes with the LNL AP what is needed to do quick changes of the powder measure. Right now my best guess is that I need:
- Additional Hornady LNL Powder Measure, includes the rotor and standard metering plunger (https://www.titanreloading.com/product/hornady-locknload-powder-measure/)
- Pistol metering plunger for pistol caliber
- Drop tube to mate the powder measure to the lower assembly (die). It doesn't seem to come with the Powder Measure above.
Am I on the money or did I miss something? Thanks.
