Hornady LnL Ap die setup problem

I'm new to reloading and am setting up my first reloader the Hornady LnL AP. I followed the directions (best as I can, better at watching than reading) on the size/decapping die. raised the shell plate and screwed in the die so its just off the plate with 3/16 or so of the pin sticking out of the die. I tested it on a .270 shell (yes I'm using the .270 new dimension dies) and it gets real hard where the stroke stops (not at the bottom) and doesn't punch the primer out. it acts kinda stuck when I push up stroke but breaks free. it's not the neck thats the problem but something to do with the primer. I tried a different case, federal and PMC, to see if it made a difference but I get the same result. I'm afraid of breaking it by pulling too hard on the handle...

Any suggestions? Thanks

I have never experienced that problem.

I would run your press empty of casings and just watch for timing issues first off.

Sometimes the timing is just off a hair and maybe your case is not centered over the discharge hole where the primer falls through the shell plate?

Did you try to adjusting your depriming pin to come out a little farther?

The shell plate should lightly contact the die when a properly lubed case is being sized. The decapping pin tip should be about 3/16" past flush of the bottom of the shell plate. It must stick out of a case that is being sized so as to push the primer completely and reliably out of the case.

If it will not chamber easily after full length sizing only, adjust the die down a touch more, firm contact wont hurt your press. The LNL AP and their single stage press "cams over" which means when the handle is all the way down, the ram actually starts to move downwards. Just before the handle is all the way down you will find the ram is at the top of its stroke.

You bought a great press.
