I have heard good things about cleaning BP revolver parts with an ultrasonic cleaner. I hate cleaning black powder residue so I thought it would be a good idea for me. Problem is my Pietta 1858 NMA is 14.5" long and about 5" high at its highest point.

Only cleaner out there that I see that may work is the Hornday LNL Hot Tub. Does anyone have one? If so, would the tank fit this beast?

I don't know about the cleaner you're asking about.

I went to the local Thrift Shop and picked up a large stainless steel roasting pot, without its cover for a Toonie. I put about 2 inches/4cm water into it, put it on the top of the stove and bring the water to a boil. Then I add whichever dish soap the wife has under the sink.

While the pot is heating up, I take the grips off the pistol and pull the cylinder, #### the hammer and immerse it all in the boiling water for about fifteen minutes. This completely frees up any crud, even the residue in the cylinder chambers and nipples.

A quick rinse with cold water to cool and brush down, then back into the pot while the small bits are being cooled and brushed as well. Back into the pot for another fifteen minutes or so.

Take the pan to the sink, drain off the filthy water and fill with cold water and rinse the parts. Check the crevices with a strong light for residue, usually there isn't any.

Rinse out all residue from the pan, put the parts back in and put it all into the oven on the "KEEP WARM" setting, for twenty minutes.

The pistol and parts should be completely dry, inside and out.

Lubricate appropriately/assemble and put the pistol back in the safe. The whole process takes around 60 minutes.

This from the Hornady site

Featuring a 9 liter capacity, the Hot Tub™ is long enough to accommodate and clean a 16 inch AR-15 upper.

Thanks for the info. I am still interested in the Hot Tub though. Still less work and I have seen the results where it is squeaky clean after a rinse, no scrubbing at all in less time.

Tricky part witj the website for Hornday is it is 16" long but the height of the gun is the issue. It is among tank but narrow at each end. I am trying to determine if the barrel will fit in the long section and the action in the more square section in the middle.
