I got a set of hornady dies ,they are a 4 die set for the 460S&W.I was wondering if it is possible to use the 460 die set to reload 45 colt ,which I will shoot from the 460.I have reloaded lots for rifle, but this is my first reload for a pistol or any straight wall case for that matter.I use a RCBS single stage unit.

Also at what speed is it not safe to use cast bullets with gas checks can I use them in the 460 or is this to hot for cast bullets.Iam reloading 250 gr cast leads.

anyother info you can direct me would be much appreciated.

Should be no problem to use them for 454 casull, or 45 colt. Be just like 45acp, 45ar and 45gap. Only difference is the others are shorter. Might have an issue if you were trying the other way around, depending on how deep the die was, but you'll be fine the way you're doing it.

Thanks curtmg, I thought there would be no problems but thought I would ask.Believe it or not my mom bought me the dies for x-mas and I know they got them at goble's in London. But was at ellwood epps last wk and they had dies i believe aswell.

now how about the cast bullets? anyone reload them for the 460 or should i be stickin with a jacketed pill? I assume they would be fine in the 454 and 45 but not to sure on the 460.

also should i be using rifle primers in the 460? and how about the 454 or should they all use large pistol primers? I had herd to use rifle primers in the 460 but would like some confirmation. Thanks all

I suggest getting a loading manual with data for the .460 S&W in it. Yes large rifle primers are required for the .460 S&W in all the load data I have seen. Small rifle for the .454.

Your 250gr cast bullets will be fine but none of my manuals have data for that kind of bullet. Perhaps the newest edition Lyman does?

All I have loaded so far is 200gr and 250gr Barnes in the .460.
