The gun is a savage 111 shooting 7mm rem mag.
I'm loading some Hornady 162gr BTHP match bullets for target shooting.
The bullet is just touching the lands at 3.412" and cycles from mag fine.
Can anyone tell me how far off the lands is recommended for these bullets? I've read some bench guys "jam" the round for best accuracy can anyone give me a hand with this one?

If your using it as a target rifle, and have no intention of hunting with it (I assume this to be correct given the bullet and by what you stated), then touching the lands is just fine. I like it to be a couple of thousand of the lead for hunting, and the bullets generally like it there too as far as accuracy is concerned.
The really big concern is to not plow the bullet into the lead. This increases pressures by not allowing the pressure to build gradually, and possibly pushing the bullet further into the case. Also, be careful of your loads with the bullet that close. You don't want to work up a load with the bullet 10 thou back, then seat it out to the lead over the same charge.......this has unpredictable results.
