Hornady single stage press priming 223

Hey, I’m having issues priming 223 on my Hornady single stage press. Squishing the hell outta the primer. I’m using win small rifle primers into federal bull brass. Could it be the crappy Hornady shell holder not guiding the primer in centered? There is abit of play around the primer cup and she’ll holder. Also the ones that did seat seems like it set it in pretty deep.

Any ideas?

Good to know about the crimps, my membership just expired so will be a few days before I can post a pic. I will revive when it’s renewed. They are intact and squished.

Give a couple turns on the primer pockets with your deburring tool to remove the crimps.

I've had ringers do the same thing.

Google "crimped primer pockets". There are several ways to remove them and videos for help.

I counter sunk the pocket and use a hand primer and have great success now.

I found the problem, the Hornady shell holder had to much play for the small rifle cup but to small for the large primer cup. Maybe I just got a bad Hornady shell holder. changed out for rcbs shell holder and works smooth now. Thanks guys.
