I had problems with my Hornady SR case feeder plate jambing if the plate picked up .223 cases so as to present them to the drop tube funnel, neck first. If the cases were picked up so as to present them to the tube funnel head first, all was ok. The jambs occurred between the edge of the plate, the case (neck first) and the sides of the hopper so the plate would stop rotating. Cases weren't even making it as far as the drop funnel. The jambs were not occurring at the drop funnel.
Under warranty, Hornady sent me a new plate. No joy. I next spoke with Hornady on the phone about a modification I thought might work. They said to try it and call em back. I did. It worked.
If you encounter this problem, simply file the pickup notches in the edge of the plate a little deeper at the left hand end of each notch looking at the plate from the top. I just used an 8" (.77" wide") bastard file against the edge of the notch at that point and reduced the diameter of the plate about 4/100ths at that point at each notch. My case feeder with SR plate now feeds .223 perfectly.
Thats the quick fix. The plate is only plastic and files easily. Careful modification takes about 30 min. Obviously you call Hornady first
. I expect they'll make a small design modification to their SR plate, especially if they get another call or two. In the meantime, taking care of it yourself is quick and easy
.
My LP and SP plates have performed flawlessly. Only the SR plate with .223 were a problem.
