Well I don't think that this has been covered on this sight as of yet, but as you may or may not know the Sako Model 85 .338F has a distinct advantage over the other .338F's. That advantage is the longer magazine length, allowing you to seat bullets out farther in the case, and of course fit more powder in the whore
.
So I picked up some 225 grain SST's for my Sako with the idea of safely stuffing in 46-46.5 grains of H4895. My COAL for this load is 2.90" compared to 2.75" that Hodgon's site recommends. Hodgon's max. load for that COAL was 45.3C for H4895.
So I went out today with 12 rounds to do a ladder test. While the ladder test was a failure (poor bench rest), I did manage to safely get to 46 grains. I didn't have 46.5 loaded but I might try that later this week.
Next I'll load up 20 or so rounds of 46 and some 46.5 and go back with a better rest and see if they are worth using.
