Has anyone used Hornady Steel Match 556 55 gr hollow points?

How do they compare with other factory loads?

I have a heavy 24" barrel MVP and looking for a bit more distance than 300 yards.

I haven't used the 556, but I have used the 55 & 75 grain 223 ammo and it's been very accurate. I've shot the 75 grain stuff out to 500 yards in my savage with a 9 twist barrel, it would be worth a try to see if it stabilizes in yours. But as for the steel vs brass case, I've had no issues with it, and it shoots as well as the brass cased match ammo.

I meant .223 ammo, but the rifle shoots both.

My 24"barrel is also a 9 to 1 twist.

I picked up a few boxes of Hornady steel match 55gr to test out, but I don't have much to compare to in the scale of things.

Thanks for the reply, its reassuring. Hopefully can shove a few downrange this weekend.

Hornady Steel is factory ammo. Wouldn't buy steel myself as it's not reloadable. Don't buy any factory ammo though.

I consider that, and I load for difficult calibers but 223/556 is so plentiful and cheap why bother? I have buckets of brass in 223 that I've never once touched. I'd rather buy a hundred pounds of good factory ammo and be done with it.

I'm going to test out a few hundred rounds of Hornady but I'd like to know how it compares with some of the better commercial loads.

My old man shot Hornady steel match .223 all summer. Was clean and accurate enough to hit gophers at 100yards. Was thru a Browning X-bolt varmit.
