Hornady XTP in 45-70?

A nice rattling noise as it "much slower than normal" goes out the end of the barrel. Might be a ##### trying to crimp it tight too. Probably will technically fire but I wouldn't do it.

ok.. so I just put a .452 bullet into a sized and ready to load 45-70 case and it fell right in.

Might not want to try.

Thanks Ryan
I just did the same, and yes - it kinda hard to crimp but it did not "fall right in". Huh? That's why I'm asking if it will work and how. They use them in muzzleloaders (with sabots though). So I had a crazy thought...

45-70 is actually anywhere inbetween 457 and 459.
Can you explain what's so wrong with this setup? For instance I saw in some documents produced by reloading equipment manufacturer recommending to use .308 bullet in 7.62x54. This is what - .003 difference to actual bullet size of 7.62x54, really close to what I see with XTP.

This case was already flared, or whatever the term is, with the die with the expander ball die. The bullet was a 45 acp fmj that had been shot before. It's probably a tiny bit smaller. I dug it out of a fishing lure box of random shooting related things. Wow.. We collect a lot of crap eh?
