Hornady XTP's- How hot?

Hello

I recently purchased some hornady 350 grain xtps for my 500 S&W magnum Handi-rifle.

I was planning on loading them for some testing of different bullet weights before a bear hunt (this will be the backup rifle).

My question is this: the box says they will expand at a variety of velocities. I am wondering if it is possible to push them too fast? I do not want a bullet failure.

Is it better to keep them going at handgun velocities? Any experience with these in other pistol caliber carbines and hotter loads on game?

Thanks

I've run 125gr, 158gr & 180gr .357 XTP bullets up to 2400fps in a 35 Whelen. I don't have a game review for ya (other than a grouse). But I shot a few of the 180gr's into a kitty litter jug full of wet sand @ 100y, they mushroomed right up and retained about 75% weight.

I'm currently running some 158gr XTP's around 2000fps in a Ruger 77/357, no complaints of grenading during tests thus far.
