It's not for me only because it is a lot of work for me, and my trips are usually quite short.
As for the Newfie on a horse, well that's another story!!! You should see my rubber ridin' boots!

In all seriousness though, I love to ride. I have trained polo horses for a few years, (of course that is english saddle), done many many a mountain trail excursion riding western, ....
I have jumped, while not very good at it though, and that little spruce meadows place
Know many horse guides and lived with one for a few years.
My horse experience is good, but the amount of time for me to do it no longer presents itself.
I like knowing the advatages of being on horseback while hunting though. I always liked camping with horses and it was great company, excellent alarm in the night, and mounted mountain views are excellent.
I have never run into a bear that was grumpy while on horse and always wondered what they would do. I have passed by bears at a distant and the horses didn't care.
I was once ploughing a field with a horse that I presume got stung by a bee. He ran a mile, 1/4 mile to the paved hiway and then straight up the hiway with plough and all attatched!!!! It was scary but damn funny when we saw he wasn't hurt.
