Today I took my new all weather 10/22 out for the first time. I was using a brick of cheap winchester super X from walmart. first 10 shots where from the ruger clip that it came with and other then the fact that I was a brutal shot it was all good. So I got out one of the hotlips 25 round clips and loaded it up. Lots of issues. Every single shot failed to eject so I was clearing the jam after every shot. The clip also didn't seem to seat right because 1/4 of the time I couldn't get the next round to load. When I looked in you could see where the round was about 1/8 inch too low to get into the barrel. Jiggling the clip usually fixed this until I had to remove it to clear the next jam.

I switched over to my other brandnew hotlips clip and it did the same thing. In the end I shot about 200 rounds mostly from the stock clip and ended up with it jamming once.

Will the other clips start to work better after I shoot a few more rounds and get things broken in better? Anything I can do to get things working better?

Is it an ammo issue? I bought the .22 so that I could get to the range for way cheaper then the 9mm I've been shooting but I suppose I could pay a little more then the cheapest I can find when it comes to ammo ;)

Mine won't shoot winchester or federal ammo reliably but it loves CCI Velocitors. There is a tip somewhere on how to get those Hotlips mags rockin. Something about using graphite (pencil lead shavings) check the 10/22 tips above in this forum. There is quite a few fellas here that will help you out.

for the hot-lips mag is usual to have issues with HP ammo....I quit using aftermarket clips for my 10/22 only because of this problem....solid bullets ammo had no problems in stock and aftermarket clips in my gun....
try different ammo.....read the first post in the 10/22 tip thread :)
good luck

Load em up and leave em for a day or 2 , I did this with my steel lips and they functioned perfectly. Don'y know if this will help you but it won't hurt or cost you anything to try it.

I stopped using hotlips/steelips due to misfeeds and general crappy performance.

I only use BX-1 factory mags. They are the most reliable and easy to clean.

As mentioned, you might want to get a few thousand rounds down the pipe to 'break in' the action before you get too concerned.... the other possible solution is to chamfer the chamber a little on the bottom to create bit of a feed ramp. I did it to my GM barrel, and it made all feeding problems disappear!

Stick with high velocity ammo for the first while--that seemed to work well for me. Remember, the 10/22 is a blowback--it needs that extra juice especially when it is getting worked in. Be sure to clean thoroughly and try again. I found that hot lips worked OK after my gun was somewhat broken in and clean...as above, those cheap hollow points will muck things up.

I went back and ran about 400 more rounds through it today. After seeing the thread about the dynapoints being back and how some guys loved them I picked up a brick yesterday and gave them a try in the clips. Much better. I got jams on about 2 out of 25 so I'm happy. Things seem to be falling into place properly now.

My hotlips mag is more reliable than stock, using mostly federal hp high velocity, gameshock I think. The rifle doesn't like cci, federal and american eagle are reliable. It's a 1967 commemroative, don't know how many rounds went through it before I got it last year.

Many have reported the "Steel Lips" to be much more reliable and durable than the "Hot Lips" and " Promo " ammo is not often of the best quality ...
but it is certainly cheap.
