Hot Tank for Firearms ???

I have some surplus rifles with 'oxidation' If a person could put them in the same 'hot tank' they use to clean automotive parts would this be advisable ?

How much rust? Surface rust will come off with a fine brass wire wheel in a bench grinder(wear eye protection) or 0000 steel wool and oil. Nothing will fix pitting.
 
Hot tanking can damage some metals and some coatings , I had one at work and it mad a mess of some peoples parts , worked well on others . Gun parts didn't do so well . I used a new product from an AutoSense parts dealer , EXR or something like that ( pm me if you need to know right name ) . I tried it on various metals and different finishes . It eliminated all rust and affected very few finishes . Didn't smell bad and didn't burn the hands , overall I was impressed . you may want to try it on something disposable first to see if it will do what you need .
 
The solution in the hot tanks of most automotive machine shops is highly caustic.

This would play havoc with the rifling & bore of the guns.

The caustic solution in automative hot tanks is sodium hydroxide (NaOH) based, and can contain phosphates also. These caustic solutions are for degreasing (not rust removal) blocks, heads, and cranks; they are compatable with iron based alloys such as cast iron, plain carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steels.
These caustic solutions will readily disolve all aluminum, brass and bronze alloys.
