I was just wondering how to properly set a RCBS full length sizer die. I have read the instructions but i have bin breaking the expander ball. What is causing this. Let me know what iam doing wrong, kyler.

What caliber? Are you sure the brass isn't berdan primed?

If you're trying to de-prime a berdan case with a regular die, you'll bust the pin every time.

Not sure what press you're using, but it should touch the shellplate on the top of the stroke, and then tighten it down another 1/4 turn or so.

make sure you dont have the whole decapping pin/expander assembly too far down in the die.. it should be down just enough for the pin to pop out the primer. make sure the expander isnt bottoming out on the bottom of the casing.

not sure if this is your problem, but its one thing that could be happening

With no case in the press, does the die touch the shell holder? For full length sizing, it should, when you look at the open section of the shell holder, you should see the decapping pin, it should just go past where the base of the empty shell would be. What caliber are you reloading? Are you sure the cases are boxer primed?
This all assumes the expander is breaking at the top of the stroke. If it is breaking when you are removing it from the case, are you lubing the case necks? I find lubing the first one, and every 3rd one is enough to keep things running smoothly.
Any more info from you would also help, ie. which caliber, which press, which brand of brass, etc. The more info, the better, lots of experience around here (not from me though, I'm still just learning too )

From your PM, you say it's a .22-250 and a Lyman T-mag press. Sadly, I have no experience with EITHER. :(

However, you did say the pin isn't breaking, it's the ball. My guess is the same as redlaker1. The pin is set too deep, and it's bottoming out on the case, and the last bit of the stroke is pushing the ball against the bottom and bending the rod.

Try loosening the pin at the top - if it bottoms out, it should 'push up' into the die, and prevent it from bending.

The other possibility - you're using the wrong dies. Are they stamped .22-250? Sounds dumb, but need to check! :)

This can happen as a few years back, my father wanted to buy a set of dies to reload his 25-20. The store clerk sold him dies for a 25-06 and said they would work. Dad never got around to loading the 25-20 - thankfully.

Always double check and never assume anything.

Since Kyler felt the need to send me a PM asking "Do you really think I'm stupid?", I'll respond here.

edit: nevermind... it's not worth the infraction.

Oh - and insulting people trying to help you is a good way to make friends around here you ingrate.
