Was at WSS buying something for family and friends and saw these on sale for $299.99+Tax (regular $449.99) Those who are looking for a decent scope at a hot price, now is the time. These are great with basically the same glass from the Vortex Viper serie but with side focus.

According to the WSS sale they are getting rid of these at a loss to make room like they did with those Flame Wheatherby Vanguard S2 that was the talk of the town about 2 months ago. Price is both online (free shipping) and in store.

Good luck

I literally just bought 2 Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 for $225 each NOS from Tradex..
..now they were the glossy version for some old HVA's, but this would be good for a new Howa I have coming.... Hmmmm. I just don't know if Philippines made trumps Japanese made...they also have the matte 3-10x40 and 3-9x40 for $269....decisions. Lol.

Here is a review that might help.

The diamondback in this test is a step down from the HP version in this thread.

I own or owned most of those scopes....I can't agree with the Burris as the optics were pretty bad and way too dark, but it was well made and durable and heavy, eye relief was short, didn't like the hold over reticle as it clutters up the view too much. Sold it off.
Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 I still have and it is one of the brightest, lightest, and clearest scopes, but I'll put it down in the fragile category, good eye relief too.
Have a 3-9x44 Redfield revenge which is the cheaper line...good eye relief, good clear glass, good solid build, narrow FOV is the only gripe.
Mostly Elites on my hunting guns....the 2-7x32 is a sweet little scope. I find them durable, clear, don't freeze up in sleet and snow, hard to beat for an inexpensive hard use bush gun.
Have a Trophy 3-9x40, it's meh....it's bright, rye relief is wonky, but the FOV is a bit too large as you can't take it all in so wide FOV can be a hindrance, also a fragile type scope.
The Nikon, Redfield, and Trophy are all Philippines and all have their own plus/minus knocks.
The Elites are Japanese and I kind of know what I'm getting there and it's very little to complain about.

Regina WSS has just the 3-12 x 40. I'd be in for a 4-16 x 40, anybody know if other cities have them at this price?

Cabelas had the 4-16x42 for $369.99 about a week ago. They go on sale for that price often at cabelas. WSS only has the 3-12x42 on sale at $299.99...the 4-16x42 is not on sale And have not for the last 6 month according to WSS old flyers.

Thanks Fluid! I went to Cabelas on Dec 12 and like you said, they said they had them(4-16x40) on sale a week ago. I asked if they wanted to make a sale today at the sale price and they went for it. $100 off came to just shy of $400 all in; $359.99 + 10% in SK.

Two other points helped convince me, this scope is in the same arena optically as my 25 yr old vx3 3.5-10 to my eyes, and the new comparable stock is going to be much higher due to our dollar. Haven't been to the range to check it out yet though. Will edit this post if my impressions change after a range visit with both optics.

Is the HP same quality as a viper? I see the viper weighs 6 ounces extra compared to the diamondback.
Somehow can't trust them to be equals.

So far, I'm impressed with the one I got for my CZ527. The glass seems pretty good. I like the reticle. The turret clicks are very "mushy" though. Easy to zero the turrets and retighten.

From a NF & Sightron guy, this one will do for my varmint rifle.

I purchased one and really don't care for it at all. Very hard to get into the scope and lacks clarity for the price. it now sits on a cheap Savage FVSR 22 lr. Varmint rifles deserve the best glass in my house, at the end of the day I make money off them.
