Many members put spaces in URL's so other members have to copy and paste the whole thing (and remove the space) to go to the actual link posted.

I've been a member of several forums for several years, and I've never encountered this behavior before. The result is the same since we still can go to the website, so it doesn't prevent anything. I have to assume that there is a good reason behind it. What is it?

ie:
instead of posting this (convenient for CGN members):
http://www.google.com

they post this:
http://www. google.com

or this

h**p://www.google.com

Ummmm, because the forum rules (that I'm sure you have read) state no hotlinking to non-sponsors?

I'm asking for the reason, not asking if it's a rule.

Examples of reasons:
a) We want to make it harder for CGN'ers to buy stuff from non-sponsors.
b) We don't want non-sponsors site owners to see in their backlog that cgn.com was a referrer to their website
c) By emitting a restriction on basic forum usage (no hotlinking) and removing the restriction to the sponsors, it makes it looks like a privilege for paying sponsors.
d) etc

I'm questioning this rule because I don't think that giving privileges to sponsors should be at the cost of the forum's "user-friendliness". Also, i don't think that asking questions about rules is a bad thing.
